MAYSA Presents...
The 2005 Kindergarten Soccer
Program
sponsored by Amica Insurance
What's it all about?
The Madison Area Youth Soccer Association (MAYSA), through the generous support of Erin Munson at Amica Insurance,
is again offering the popular kindergarten youth soccer program for children born after August 1, 1998 and before July 31, 1999,
or any child currently enrolled in kindergarten (Preschool children are not eligible for this program). This policy is designed
to ensure that your child will enjoy playing soccer in a non-competitive, instructional environment with kids of his or her own age and ability.
This program will begin April 23, 2005 and ending by June 4, 2005. See the calendar on the pamphlet for schedule
details. Practices and games will be held on Saturday mornings, for 1 hour, sometime between 9:00AM-12:00PM at your
elementary school or local park. The exact time and place for practices will be chosen by your volunteer parent
coaches. Players are assigned to teams according to school. If necessary, we will combine nearby schools in order
to make complete teams.
Who will coach these teams?
PARENTS!! Each team must have a minimum of 2 coaches per team.
As one of the coaches, you will be expected to attend the April 19th pre-season coaching clinic, where you will learn the fundamentals of
soccer and activities to use to teach skills to your team. While there, you will also receive special soccer activity books, cones, a team ball
bag, game schedules and important league information from MAYSA Staff.
Coaches will be sent a roster of their team by April 4, 2005.
They will be instructed to contact all team members as soon as they receive the roster. You don’t have to be a soccer star or even have
played the game before in order to be a great coach. All you need is an enthusiasm for youngsters and the desire to have fun!!
What's the Philosophy of this program?
Our philosophy is a simple one, play the game and have fun doing it!! For the first part of the season, teams just get together and
practice. They will learn basic soccer skills through other related games and fun activities. Then they will progress to mini games
with other teams in the immediate area.
No scores are kept and goalkeepers are not used, so there are lots of chances for both
teams to score. Teamwork, good sporting behavior and fair play are the most important skills each player should develop from this program.
How do I register my child?
Fill out the registration form and return it to MAYSA with a check for $50 before March 4, 2005. The fee includes
a soccer ball, a MAYSA jersey, shorts and socks, all of which each player keeps. Parents must purchase a pair of shinguards for their
child as they are not included with the registration fee and are required for play. Shinguards are available at any sporting goods
department, or soccer stores. Soccer shoes are optional, tennis shoes are acceptable, but we do not allow baseball shoes with
square cleats.
Early Registration Discount! Register your child before February 21, 2005 and save 10% off the registration
fee. Simply deduct $5 off the $50 registration fee if you are sending in your registration before February 21st.
Can my child sign-up with a friend?
MAYSA allows kids in the kindergarten soccer program to sign up with one
other child. When registering online, simply list the friend's name in the "Buddy System" field. When registering using a paper form, parents should send in both registration forms for the two children that would like to be together, in the same envelope.
This will insure that the two children will get placed on the same team. To insure that every child has an equal opportunity to
play with his or her schoolmates, we do not allow groups (teams) of children to register as a team.
Children are placed on teams in a first come first serve fashion, with a roster limit of 10. If a school would have over the amount necessary
for a team, an additional team would be created or the remaining classmates would be combined with another school. If you have any
questions contact Lee Acker at the MAYSA office at 276-9030 ext 301. A limited
number of scholarships are available for children in need.
